Green Valentines and Sustainable Treats

Love is a many splendored thing. Love lifts us up where we belong. All you need is love. If all we need is love, then why is February and this month associated with so much waste?! I'll admit, I almost got suckered in by the heart-shaped box of chocolate with the kittens on it, but then I remembered our Go Green Valentine Tips!  We have lots of tips plus local sustainable swaps for flowers and chocolate! Read on and be our green valentine.

Tips for Green Valentines

DO

Below are some of our favorite sustainable shopping experiences for Valentine's Day! Think local first -- we have a lot of wonderful shops in GE that have an inventory of unique gifts! Plus loads of interesting dining and drinking establishments as well!

Flowers or plants - Consider sustainably-sourced flowers or a plant this year. Seed packets or bulbs with the promise of future flowers are also a great gift idea!

Gifts - Where did your gift come from? Understanding that makes choosing easier when considering gifts like jewelry or consumables like chocolate! You will know the provenance at these shops!:

Greeting Cards - Look for recycled paper, cards by local artists, and AVOID glitter, foil and cards with batteries!

You can shop these great stores AND have a chance to win a golden ticket tomorrow (2/8) for the Downtown Alliance's  Wonka Walk!

Some of these businesses might make excellent choices for Green Business of the Year from the Chamber of Commerce Community Awards.

Happy Valentines Day from your friends at Go Green Glen Ellyn!
