Your weekend checklist
November arrives today and with it darker evenings (clocks fall back this weekend!), lots of leaves, and a couple of elections! Go Green has a checklist for you for this first November weekend so you can kickstart your month!

Go Green is here to serve you with a to-do list for your weekend!
Recycle -- Go Green GE is partnering with the Village of Glen Ellyn's Environmental Commission and the GE Park District tomorrow to offer a recycling mini for your hard to recycle items! The event takes place at Village Green from 9-11 on Saturday. Vendors helping us recycle are Flat Can and Junk Luggers. Go Green will also be collecting gently used packaging for EcoShip. Please note we will not be accepting any foam products. Here’s a list of what is being accepted. We hope to see you there -- and could use a volunteer or two.
Smash your Pumpkins! -- Next door to our Recycling mini, the Park District, with help from Go Green volunteers, will be hosting a pumpkin smash. Bring your Halloween pumpkins to smash as a great stress reducer. You can also drop them off for others to smash. Be sure to remove any decorations and painted pumpkins cannot be accepted. Keeping pumpkins out of the landfill reduces harmful greenhouse gasses and has the added bonus of creating rich compost for the Village Green gardens! There are other pumpkin smash opportunities in the area, check the SCARCE website. Scroll down for an interactive map of locations.
Rake your leaves into your garden beds. You have heard "leave the leaves" but we know that most of you want them off your lawn! Consider raking them into your garden beds to create an insulating blanket and compost for your perennials as well as a home for pollinators. Leave them until late spring to ensure their habitat stays safe. We also recommend the analog rake for some brisk exercise rather than the noise and air pollution from blowing your leaves. Read more in this Go Green post!
VOTE! -- One important way to make your greenie voice heard and create lasting change is to vote! Learn about candidates (see below for Go Green's contribution to the local candidate discussion), understand their positions on issues that are important to you, and make a plan to vote!
Town Meeting election -- Vote for local candidates for who will be on the ballot in the April election: Village President, Village Trustees (3), Library Board (4) and Clerk. Vote Saturday from 8-2 at the Civic Center or GE Police Station. Town Meeting speeches are at 10am-11am on Saturday at the Civic Center gymnasium.
General election -- Early voting is still open through Monday! Beat the lines and vote at the Civic Center or other DuPage locations. Voting Locations and Times
