OAKtoberfest is here!

We have been working hard to plan an amazing day filled with fun, education and maybe a surprise or two. While the event is FREE, there will be food and drink for purchase including custom beer from Two Hound Red, cider, coffee and donuts from Martha's Coffee and Go Green GE. We have dozens of volunteers (mostly readers of this newsletter!) and we are so thankful for their help.

Any proceeds from the day will go to plant oak trees in Glen Ellyn and support Go Green Glen Ellyn local projects. Donations will be happily accepted!

Go Green Glen Ellyn is working with the GE Park District to make this event happen and we have more than a dozen organizations joining us! Have a look at who will be there:

  • Start the day with yoga from Go Green Glen Ellyn friend Kristin, who you can normally find teaching yoga at Health Track. Her session starts at 1:15p and please bring your own mat!

  • Our friends at SCARCE are back with an educational display as well as a hands-on workshop on making paper! Join them in the platform tennis hut.

  • The League of Women Voters of Glen Ellyn will be present to help voters make a plan to vote this election season.

  • The Friends of the East Branch DuPage River Trail will be there with news of the nearby proposed trail and a petition for signatures.

  • Prairie Food Co-op will be showing us progress they have made on the co-op store in Lombard.

  • Reps from Dark Sky Foundation will demonstrate dark sky compliant lighting that also helps migrating birds.

  • Glen Ellyn Public Library is bringing their "Library Anywhere" van with free books and other surprises.

  • The Forest Preserve of DuPage County is also bringing a truck full of engaging and interactive displays and activities.

  • The Conservation Foundation will help us understand their mission, as well as provide information about the referendum on the ballot for the Forest Preserve.

  • Glen House Food Pantry volunteers will be at OAKtoberfest collecting your donated non-perishable food.

  • We have a plethora of native plant info (and plants!) at OAKtoberfest, with University of Illinois Extension as well as two local garden designers: Branch Gardens and Homegrown Gardens.

DO

  1. Head to OAKtoberfest!  Bring your love of the oaks and the outdoors, your yoga mat and a few cans for Glen House Pantry.

  2. Check the Go Green Glen Ellyn Calendar for things to do and ways to participate!

  3. Plant an oak tree (or really any native) in your yard. The fall is an excellent time to plant as the cooler weather gives a stress-free way for the plant or tree to get established before the winter cold settles in.

  4. Donate to Go Green Glen Ellyn to help plant a tree or continue our greenie work in the community.

Glen Ellyn's oak ecosystem thanks you!
